Le film impressionné est ensuite développé par les moyens photographiques ordinaires, ce qui permet de faire apparaître sur sa surface des images de teintes ou de formes différentes correspondant aux sons enregistrés. Il s'agit ensuite d'utiliser cette piste sonore photographique développée, fixée et tirée en positif pour obtenir la reproduction sonore.
